HawfinchNorfolk, with its fertile fields and big skies has a wonderful array of winter birding opportunities. Living here it’s all too easy to take these things for granted but to the visitor this is a truly magical time of year.

What better way to escape the Christmas shopping or beat the January blues than to join us on one of our tours?

Our tours take us to the salty North Norfolk Coast, the east of the country twixt sea and Broads and also to the woodlands and sandy heaths of Breckland.

Amongst the fantastic array of specialities on offer are:

Common Crane, Hen Harrier, Marsh Harrier, Merlin, Barn Owl, Taiga Bean Goose, Pink-footed Goose, White-fronted Goose, Mediterranean Gull, Bearded Tit and with luck Bittern, Bewick’s Swan, Whooper Swan and Peregrine on one tour

Or:

Mediterranean GullSnow Bunting, Shorelark, Twite, Bearded Tit, Pink-footed Goose, White-fronted Goose, Brent Goose, Hen Harrier, Marsh Harrier, Merlin, Common Scoter, Velvet Scoter, Eider and Little Egret on another tour.

Or:

Hawfinch, Crossbill, Brambling, Firecrest, Woodlark, Common Buzzard, Goosander, Bewick’s Swan, Whooper Swan and with luck and the right conditions Goshawk, Stone Curlew and Great Grey Shrike on another.

There will of course be more regular winter visitors such as Knot, Sanderling, Redwing, Fieldfare and Siskin and with luck we may also encounter Slavonian Grebe, a Glaucous Gull from the north, Tundra Bean Goose, Black Brant, Smew, a dashing Peregrine, Short-eared Owl, Purple Sandpiper, Waxwing, maybe a Lapland Bunting and this being Norfolk very often a seasonal rarity or two! Recent winters have been outstanding with White-crowned Sparrow, Snow Goose, Ross’s Goose, Red-breasted Goose, Iceland Gull, Desert Wheatear, Green-winged Teal and American Wigeon to name but a few.
